Blood donor studies at Finnish Red Cross Blood Service

At Finnish Red Cross Blood Service we have two ongoing studies about blood donor health. In addition to them we have also started a sociological blood donor study.

For the FIN Donor 10 000 iron study samples from blood donors are collected in order to investigate factors that influence the iron storages.

GeneRisk is a broad national collaboration study which offers blood donors an opportunity to find out their own risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Recruitment of new participants to both studies has ended.

In addition to this, we study through a sociological doctoral thesis how blood donors would experience the use of donated blood to research and biobanking.

The first preliminary results were ready in 2016 and 2017.
